I posted on another forum, but was being bounced around trying to find some answers. Not quite sure what catagory this would fall under, so I just posted it under general since it seems I need help everywhere. I read NWNMaster's guide and was extremely helpful, but was a few more things I was wondering and/or needed help with.
I have dial-up, so most PW's are not going to be overly friendly towards me. I do not seem to lag up at all and largest problem I face is getting disconnected, but instead of creating problems for others, I decided to do my own thing.
First off, my goal is to create pretty much an entire world to explore, etc. I just made my first area and am already running into trouble! I will seperate my problem areas to make it easier, otherwise, I am all over the place with everything.
1.) I read the instructions on making area transitions, but I have been having trouble creating transitions going from outside to the inside of a house or building. I made it all up, labeled the doors (inner front barn door/outter front barn door, etc), but I can not figure out how to make a good transition with them. I see on many (the OC included) after you open the door you have an Arch with an arrow in it to represent the area transition and am guessing that I what I need but have no clue how to get it. Did not see this in the tutorial, but may have missed it. Of course, it is probably a simple answer and I am just an idoit.
2.) I finally was able to get my water/land transition (tutorial was a savior there) without having gaps and such. Problem I am facing is placing docks, boats, etc. The way I have been doing it is to create the basic land features, create where I want the water. Raise areas for the boats/docks to sit on. Place the water. Then lower the land back down so it is not showing. Is there an easier way to do this? It seems even when I do it that way, things do not seem to line up just right which makes it so they can not be walked upon properly.
3.) Caves. Okay, I am having the hardest time with this and is getting really annoying! I can not think of any other way to place them. The closest I have come to creating a good looking cave enterance was to create a moutain (or whatever), flatten the side off, and place the cave close to it. Problem is that if I move it too close so that there are no gaps, then the cave does not show. If I move it too far away there are gaps. I tried to modify the wireframe, but either I can not do that or am not doing it right. Is there a good or easy way to get a good looking cave going?
4.) Patrols. I read the waypoint sections, but what I am trying to do is create a patrol in town for the guards to follow. I guess my question there would be is there a way to loop that? Somebody replied on another forum about a script to handle that. I figured there would be something built into the game? Or no?
5.) Dual world maps. I have not yet got this far, but figured I would ask before I get to it to avoid any potential problems. I am looking to use 2 seperate world maps, one for land travel and one for water. I would also like them to be "Fee based" to where it costs to travel. For example:
You go to a stable at one area and pay 100 gold to travel to a close town or 500 for a further one (same basic theory with the water). Only thing is that I really do not want to be able to go to a stable and cross water (which would put in use the port map). In short, I would like to connect stables to other stables and ports to other ports and at the same time be seperate (though may use same basic map image).
On a totally seperate note. As I said, I played in a few PW's and saw some things that I would like to use in my own personal little world. Is there a way to extract stuff from there? Also, was wondering if there is a way to play on the PW without being connected (solo)? There was some ideas that I wanted to implement, but either I have to connect to get in (and hope that I do not get whacked) or it just will not run. As a side note on that, not wanting to take other's work to re-release. There was a custom class I liked in one that I would like to use, a general set up in another that I really liked and would like to go in to get an idea on how it was done, another had a really nicely done area I would like to use. If it can not be done, or are against that sort of thing, I understand. More for personal knowledge then anything else. Thanks again and awesome work on the tutorial!!!
